Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal itself. Using the healing power of nature and gentle therapeutic techniques, the body, mind and emotions are supported during the healing process.

Naturopathic principles are based on treating each person as an individual and treating the whole person, not just the affected area.

At High Street Natural Health, we focus on individual treatment for you. It is our goal to heal your whole body, mind and emotions, in order to restore health and prevent disease.

Treatment methods include:

  • Herbal Medicine is a major tool used to provide the body with what it needs to heal

  • Dietary and Nutritional advice to restore health, meet deficiencies and prevent diseases

  • Lifestyle advice to promote well-being and to reduce stress

  • Soft tissue manipulation to reduce pain

  • Homoeopathy often used for children or in pregnancy

What is the basis of naturopathy?

Naturopathy uses the holistic principles of Hippocrates to treat the underlying cause and the whole patient, not just the symptoms. It focuses on educating the patient and developing preventative measures to reduce recurrence. Therefore we focus on teaching and providing a range of holistic medicines for your wellbeing.

The underpinnings of naturopathic medical practice are in six principles:

  • First Do No Harm – primum non nocere

  • The Healing Power of Nature – vis medicatrix naturae

  • Discover and Treat the Cause, Not Just the Effect – tolle causam

  • Treat the Whole Person – tolle totum

  • The Physician is a Teacher – docere

  • Prevention is the best “cure” – praevenire

Our Naturopathic practitioners:

Our naturopathic practitioners achieved a four-year naturopathic education. They must pass rigorous professional board exams and work in all aspects of family health — from pediatric to geriatric care. In addition, Naturopaths are trained in clinical nutrition, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine and counselling. Many Naturopaths go on to concentrate on specific areas such as acupuncture, midwifery and oriental medicine. Naturopaths view natural remedies as complementary as well as primary, so we cooperate with other medical professionals, referring patients to (and receiving patients from) conventional medical doctors, surgeons and other specialists when appropriate.

What to expect at your consultation:

Your time with Aurora will begin with a thorough and in-depth health consultation, where you will discuss your health history, current symptoms and complaints, and lifestyle influences. During the consultation Aurora will look for bodily signs of deficiency or ill health – this includes looking at your hands & nails, tounge and irisis. We use iridology and some simple in-clinic assessments to measure adrenal health, which can include checking your blood pressure and urine analysis.

Once a diagnosis has been reached, Aurora will then discuss the best treatment plan with you, which will include a combination of herbal medicines, vitamin and mineral supplements, acupuncture, dietary therapy or counselling.
