Acupuncture for Fertility
Trying to conceive? Acupuncture can increase your chance of conception by up to 50-60% by balancing your hormones and improving blood flow. It is also safe to use during pregnancy and a great way to help you feel comfortable and relaxed.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of ultra-thin, sterile needles into specific acupoints on the body. These points, when applied, can regulate the way in which the body functions. Read more on acupuncture here.
Can Acupuncture Be Used To Treat Infertility?
Acupuncture helps by addressing problems that cause infertility such as an under-functioning thyroid (hypothyroidism), over-functioning thyroid (hyperthyroidism), PCOS or unknown subfertility. Acupuncture is often combined with herbal medicine and has been used for centuries. Acupuncture can increase blood flow to the endometrium, helping to facilitate conception and implantation.
Attempting to conceive is a stressful experience for couples. Acupuncture can help relieve this stress in both partners. It is considered best to treat both partners if possible.
Can Acupuncture help during IVF Treatment?
Acupuncture can be combined with IVF to improve the likelihood of conception. In 2002, German researchers discovered that acupuncture significantly increased the odds of pregnancy among a group of 160 women who were undergoing IVF treatment. Forty-two percent of the women who received acupuncture got pregnant, compared to 26 percent of those who didn’t receive the treatment. They thought that acupuncture helped increase blood flow to the uterus and relax the muscle tissue, which improved the chance of the embryos implanting.
